The Pinkies Walk
When we see two people holding hands it’s usually part of a romantic act, but in Egypt, holding hands is a sign of kinship and friendship, rather than a romantic relationship. So, it’s perfectly normal to see two people walking down the street holding hands (or pinkies), despite being a fairly conservative country in most aspects.
The history behind this practice may be related to a historical custom of Egyptian culture. Historically, men generally spent more time with one another than with women, so habits like these developed. Thanks to this convention, Egyptian men can show affection in public and it won’t look strange.
