The Greek Motuza
One of the first gestures or words we learn in a new country is swear words or insulting gestures. You want to know which words and gestures to avoid, but you also want to know how to stand your ground – so that might come in handy. In Greece, instead of showing the middle finger as an insult, you use your whole hand. You must extend your arm and separate all the fingers with the palm of your hand pointing to the person’s direction.
If you want to be even more firm, you can extend both hands. This seems like a lot of effort just to insult someone, rather than just lifting up one finger, and it also seems like something that might be difficult to pull off when you’re, say, driving. People often find it necessary to show their middle finger to other drivers on the road.
