Guy Fawkes Night
Guy Fawkes Night is a traditional bonfire held annually in the UK, in celebration of the Guy Fawkes’ Gunpowder Plot in 1605 which failed (they celebrate the failure of the plan). The community gathers together, celebrating with fireworks and a large bonfire, where they burn a straw dummy representing Guy Fawkes.
To be honest, we’ve never heard about this tradition until reading this thread, while this person thought this was a completely normal thing. We’re not saying it isn’t normal, just that it’s unique. It’s not something they do everywhere. However, in most cultures and places around the world, they have holidays or traditions where they light a bonfire.
