Talking with Your Hands
In Mexico, moving your index from one side to the other means “no” and doing it from top to bottom means “yes” – the same as you might do with your head. You can keep using your hands to speak in any other way, for example, raise the palm of your hand to thank someone or put your elbow in the hand to show that someone is stingy.
Do you know those people who talk with their hands? You know, the ones who make a lot of hand movements and gestures as they speak. Well, in Mexico, those gestures aren’t random, but they all have meanings. All you hand-talkers need to be careful when you visit Mexico – you don’t want to end up saying something you don’t mean.
