The No Gifting Rule
Who doesn’t like gifts? Can you imagine Christmas without gifts? It just wouldn’t be the same. Well, in some villages of Ireland, giving gifts is almost considered offensive. In some cultures, people reject gifts, and ask to never receive any gifts, because they don’t like the idea of necessity – by accepting any kind of gift, they will always be in debt.
If someone accepts a gift, then they’d have to give an even better gift to the person who gave them the gift, and then that person has to reciprocate with an even better gift, and it just becomes a vicious cycle. That’s why it’s better to avoid gifts altogether. We’ve just said the word “gift” enough for a lifetime.
