Reading the Sky
It’s always impressive to read stories about the past, where the characters can tell so much about their surroundings simply by observing nature. For example, they can predict the weather with remarkable accuracy and quickly determine direction. They can even accurately estimate the time of day. Here’s a little trick to help you look like a pioneer in tune with nature.
You can fairly accurately predict how long until the sun sets using nothing more than your hand. First, holding your hand in front of you, line up the bottom of your hand along the horizon and the top of your hand at the sun’s edge. Then, for each finger that falls between these two areas, calculate 15 minutes. It may not be as accurate as your smart technology, but it’s pretty darn close. And it’s sure to impress your friends.
