You may have noticed the increased chatter about ADHD in recent years. Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder is a condition where a difference in brain development can affect a person’s attention span and self-control. It’s pretty common among young children, but more and more adults are being diagnosed with ADHD. With the increased awareness of ADHD, more and more people are realizing behaviors they thought were a normal part of life are actually caused by ADHD. This realization has made people feel less alone and more open about their everyday struggles. Here are some of the top behaviors people thought were “normal,” only to realize they have ADHD.
#1: What Did You Say?
This person has always had a difficult time with listening comprehension. If someone is talking to them, they’ll try their hardest to focus on what is being said, but more often than not, they have no idea what is happening. Interestingly, they understand the words spoken, but their brain isn’t registering the meaning.
Difficulty with language comprehension is a common symptom of ADHD. People with ADHD may find it hard to manage a noisy, distracting environment while someone is talking to them. Rapidly spoken language can also be hard to process. That doesn’t mean this person doesn’t have the capacity to understand; they can just miss details or lose track of a conversation.
