Not a Lie
Parents around the world will tell you this one isn’t a lie. It’s so hard to understand a toddler when they’re crying and whining. It’s hard enough to understand them when they aren’t crying. I mean, I could probably muddle through, and I usually already know the issue, but it is true that they’re much easier to understand once they’ve calmed down.

I throw in the request for a few deep breaths, and voila, problem solved. A calm kid who can form full words without all the snot and hiccups! This applies to preteens as well, so far as I can tell. They tend to get pretty dramatic when something doesn’t go their way, and since they want you to know what’s wrong, they’ll calm down to tell you.
