#41: Performance Enhancement
Generally speaking, alcohol is not considered a performance-enhancing drug in sports. Drinking impairs your coordination and slows you down, both of which are not great if you’re about to go do intense physical activity. However, there is one exception to this rule. Alcohol is, in fact, considered a performance-enhancing drug in most shooting sports.
When you drink a small amount, alcohol calms you down and slows your heart rate. For people in rile competitions, this can be beneficial in helping them shoot straighter. The National Collegiate Athletic Association and World Anti-Doping Agency have banned alcohol from any and all shooting sports for this reason. Consuming alcohol before wielding a firearm is definitely risky, so this ban is for the best.
