#45: Babe Ruth, the Cabbage King
Babe Ruth spent his career with the New York Yankees breaking records and making history. He set a lot of precedents. But this one ritual to keep cool while out on the field didn’t seem to catch on, unfortunately. Allegedly, Babe Ruth would wear a cabbage leaf on his head under his cap.
The cabbage leaf was for both practical and superstitious reasons. He wore the cabbage leaf for good luck and to keep cool. To ensure his cabbage head didn’t get soggy, he would change out the leaf every two innings during a game. Now that’s dedication! We can’t say if this strategy worked or not, but every brilliant athlete needs their quirks.
