#75: Extreme Tug-of-War
Many of us think of tug-of-war as a fun, harmless game that we used to play as kids. It’s a playground game better left to nostalgia and elementary school. Right? No. We are all so, so wrong. Tug-of-war can get intense, especially when adults are playing against each other. In fact, tug-of-war was an Olympic event for 20 years, between 1900 and 1920.
Sadly, tug-of-war was pushed off to the side after 1920. It was determined that the Summer Olympics simply had too many sporting competitions. They needed to slim down their selection. Tug-of-war didn’t make the cut. It seems that there still may be hope for everyone’s favorite playground competition. The International Olympic Committee still recognizes tug-of-war as an official sport. Maybe it’ll come back someday!
