#36: The World’s Oldest Tennis Court
Did you know the game of tennis has been around for centuries? The original version of the game, known as court tennis today, was invented in Birmingham, England, in the Middle Ages. The game has evolved over the centuries, but the original concept remains the same. In a cool twist of events, the world’s oldest tennis court is still in use to this day.
The Falkland Palace tennis court in Scotland has been in use since 1541. The palace and tennis court were built for King James V of Scotland. The court hasn’t been in continuous use since its original construction, but it has survived over the centuries and is still fully functional. It’s pretty wild to think that some people are lucky enough to play a game on the same court a Scottish king may have used.
