#22: The Original Women’s World Cup
Soccer is one of the most popular sports in the entire world. There are teams all over the world, and all of them want to get to the World Cup competition. Like the Men’s World Cup, the Women’s World Cup happens every four years. Although the first FIFA World Cup occurred in 1930, it would take another seven decades for the Women’s World Cup to become a thing.
Women’s soccer finally got its time to shine in the 90s with the inaugural World Cup competition. The first iteration of this contest was pretty small, with only 12 international teams competing. However, the Women’s World Cup has only grown in size and popularity since that first year. Now, 44 countries participate in the tournament, and viewership is through the roof.
