We’ve discussed how large America really is, but many foreigners like to reduce the U.S. to California, New York, and Texas or even to specific cities like San Francisco. Americans do the same for subsets of their own population. Now, you, too, can look at the world as a native New Yorker!

This map looks so empty! Maybe it’s because everything is so densely packed in New York City that even a couple hundred feet of emptiness on the street means the place is practically abandoned. Whatever the reason, we exhale slightly faster out the nose when we see a picture of cheese for Wisconsin instead of the word.
