We often hear about how the world’s population is crowding into cities and that we’re running out of space, but maps like these seem to tell a very different story. We think so much of the U.S. is green (and therefore uninhabited) because of particularly harsh conditions like scorching deserts.

This information is somewhat out of date, considering America’s birth rate and how much expansion can be done in a decade. However, we imagine Alaska is still very much a wild frontier. We know it’s not quite the same, but we found a small community of barely over 100 people in Colorado called No Name that we couldn’t forget.
