#18: You’re Pronouncing It Wrong
The United Kingdom may be well-known for its myriad localized accents and dialects, but people don’t realize that there are more accents in the U.S. than just a southern or Boston accent. With different accents come many different pronunciations, which, strangely enough, depends on where you grew up.

We’ll look at some other controversial maps, like soda vs. pop, later, but this is a debate we’d love to see some toddlers get into: How do you pronounce the word crayon? We get the feeling that settlers who traveled to tame the Wild West liked to be different, which is why we see so many of these maps with spectrums from east to west.
