#7: “Beware!”
We all know that eating healthy foods and being physically active can help us live longer, healthier lives. However, it gets complicated when schools and other organizations try to spread that message effectively. Some people, like this storyteller, remember the emphasis on weight and eating disorders being pretty prevalent in school during the early to mid-2000s.
While this health education emphasis on “healthy” weight was well-intentioned, it actually negatively affected some teenagers and young kids. For some kids, focusing on the topic of weight made them hyper-aware of their own bodies and how they fell short of the “ideal” weight expectations. Today, a lot more programs focus on eating healthy rather than achieving a weight goal, which is good!
