#12: Making Amends
There are certain inventions that have undoubtedly changed the course of human history. Dynamite is one of those inventions. Created by Alfred Nobel in the 1860s, the explosive revolutionized the way we build roads, tunnels, and so much more. However, Nobel was dismayed to learn that his invention was being used to harm others.
Nobel realized that his invention, while revolutionary, would cause his legacy to be one of violence. As a result, he was inspired to create something else more positive to make up for it. After his death, he directed that a majority of his wealth go on to fund monetary prizes celebrating human progress in science and literature. Yup, that’s right. Alfred Nobel discovered dynamite and founded the Nobel Peace Prize.
