#36: No Child Left Behind
Public education in the United States has been in the news lately. However, a lot of people have been critical of the quality of American public school education for quite some time. A lot of educators, parents, and the general public feel that all the well-intentioned efforts to improve things have only led to things getting worse and worse.
Different programs and initiatives, like the No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 and the Every Student Succeeds Act of 2015, are intended to improve curriculum and education. However, they have actually made things worse in some cases. It’s always difficult to make wide-sweeping improvements to a large-scale system, but you’d think all that money would fix something, right? However, most high school graduates today read below a high school level when they graduate.
