#43: Get Off My Lawn!
People have introduced non-native plants, insects, and animals into an environment simply because they look pretty. It might not seem like a big deal, but non-native species can cause a huge problem for local ecosystems and the environment as a whole. Sometimes, invasive species are introduced as a short-term solution to a problem, only to leave a lasting negative impact.
Certain plants and insects, like kudzu vines and the cane toad, were introduced to an environment as a natural form of pest control. Sure, they can solve the “problem” but then they take over and become a problem themselves. Ecosystems are very delicate and a lot of times us humans don’t know how our actions can affect them.
