Forget About Alcohol
Alcohol might make your tummy feel warm after a swig, but the warming effect only lasts for a few brief moments. How alcohol works is that it expands your blood vessels, which can make you feel warm temporarily, but when you’re out in the cold, expanded blood vessels can spell disaster.
When your blood vessels expand, they take heat away from other organs in your body. What you should drink to stay warm is a bit of coffee (not before shoveling, please), hot cocoa, or even warm water. There’s no beverage on the planet that’s better for your health than water.
