#44: The Man Behind the Logo
We all know the iconic red, white, and blue NBA logo that shows the silhouette of a stylized basketball player dribbling a ball. But did you know that the logo is based on a real basketball player? Although the NBA has always officially denied it, the logo is very obviously based on a photo of Lakers guard Jerry West.

You can see the photo for yourself with a simple Google search. It’s pretty spot-on. The NBA created the logo as an “anonymous” player, so Jerry West has never received any royalties since it was created in 1969. Honestly, don’t feel too bad. Today, Jerry West is in his 80s and is an executive board member for the LA Clippers. He’s done pretty well for himself.
