#29: Flattered and Hurt
It’s not uncommon for people to make promises with a friend when they are younger that if they are both single by the time they turn 30 or 40, they will marry each other. Yes, people actually do this in real life and not just on TV. We’d like to know when this started and why people think it’s such a great idea.

Sure, it’s nice to know that if you’re single at 40, you will have a backup plan and someone to share the rest of your life with. But isn’t it kind of sad at the same time? It’s flattering to be chosen as someone’s backup, but you’re also their last resort if they don’t find anyone better. Seems a little sad, doesn’t it?
