27. This is a Lot to Chew On
This has apparently been a symbol in Christianity for some time as the belief that a pelican using her own blood to feed her young was once thought to be true. Given how weird pelicans are, it’s maybe not the most outlandish conclusion to come to (though it’s up there).
With the red-tipped beak against the white feathers and its pouch turning red during breeding season, there is logic to the idea. As it turns out, however, the poster found out sometime later it was a myth. But aren’t myths the stories on which society is built? It’s important to be able to distinguish between myth and reality.
