#5: Alan Turing
You might be familiar with Alan Turing’s story if you’ve watched the film The Imitation Game (2014). The brilliant British mathematician and codebreaker experienced a cruel and tragic fate after World War II. His pivotal role in cracking the Nazi Enigma code had been instrumental in the Allies’ victory, yet his life took a dark turn when society learned of his homosexuality.

He faced a choice between imprisonment or hormonal treatment to “cure” his homosexuality, opting for the latter, which brought devastating physical and emotional consequences. His security clearance was revoked, and he was ostracized from the society he had helped safeguard. Years after he passed, he was rightfully given the many accolades he deserved.
