Tips for Adding Storage to Your Home

June 23, 2022 by Sarah Barber

Most of us can probably agree that we could use a little more storage space, and for some of us, maybe a lot of storage space. The trick to finding more storage in your home is getting creative with what you have to work with, and we have some tips and tricks that should make things a little easier. Let’s get started!

First things first, you have to declutter. You don’t need us to tell you that there is no reason to house things you don’t need or don’t want; you’re looking to create as much storage as possible, after all, so getting rid of any excess stuff will make organizing so much easier in the end.

Now that you’re left with only the things you want and need, it’s time to start finding all that extra space. (It’s there, we promise!) Let’s take the bedroom, for example. If you’re looking for new furniture as well as storage, consider nabbing a storage bed that is pretty much made of drawers. If you’re not in the market for a new bed, consider flat totes that simply slide under your bed to create some extra storage especially ideal for out-of-season clothing.

Speaking of furniture that doubles as storage, consider nabbing a storage chest. Not only can this be used at the foot of your bed for a little extra decor or even against a wall to create some dimension, but it makes for a great storage area for blankets, pictures, books, you name it.

Doors are probably the last area you turn to when you’re brainstorming storage ideas, but we think you should, you know, think again. Doors double as great storage when it comes to shoe storage or even bathroom storage.

If you’ve been looking for a sign to buy a new ottoman, this is it. But not just any ottoman, a storage ottoman. Storage ottomans are large enough to hold files, shoes, handbags, and even clothes, but they also serve their purpose of being a piece of furniture you can sit back, relax, and kick your feet up on.

If toys have taken over your home, a toy chest is just what you need. Not only can you purchase one that is plenty big enough for every past piece, but toy chests are easy for kids to use no matter what age they are because anyone can throw toys in a big box.
