First, there were charcuterie boards consisting of meats, cheeses, fruits, spreads, and bread. Then, we graduated to themed charcuterie boards like fajita boards, waffle boards, and even movie night boards consisting of everything good in this world. And when butter boards became an internet sensation we thought that was it, that as a society we would never be able to top what we had created. Until now. We present to you cream cheese boards.

What is a Cream Cheese Board?

Cream cheese boards are a fun take on butter boards and the premises are pretty much the exact same. You’ll take your cream cheese and you’ll use a butter knife to spiral the cream cheese onto the board. Once your board is covered you’ll add toppings, then some type of bread will act as a vessel to get the cream cheese from the board to your mouth.

Much like a butter board, you can opt for a sweet board or a savory board, or you can get crazy and have a sweet and savory board. You can choose to use plain cream cheese, you can use flavored cream cheese, or you really flex and make your own cream cheese. As for toppings, no fruits, nuts, jams, honey, vegetables, or herbs are off limits, just so long as the flavors go together. (Basically, we don’t recommend broccoli and strawberry jam together.) And last but not least, bread. Our personal favorite is to cut up bagels and use them as your vessel, but again, you really can’t go wrong here because carbs.

Flavor Combinations

If a cream cheese board sounds like your idea of a perfect night but you aren’t sure where to start flavor-wise, allow us to help you out.

Strawberry Basil

To make this board you’ll lay down a layer of plain cream cheese, followed by strawberry sauce, and fresh basil, and top it all off with the slightest drizzle of balsamic vinegar. We love to serve this with a fresh, warm baguette, but it’s great for spreading on a cracker as well. Get the full recipe here!

Everything Bagel

We’re pretty convinced there’s nothing that can’t be made a little better with some everything but the bagel seasoning. For this cream cheese board, all you need is cream cheese, sour cream, and a few pantry staples. This board can be served with just about anything but we love to offer a rainbow of fresh vegetables and, of course, bagels. Get the full recipe here!

Cinnamon Sugar

Whether it’s the perfect fall morning brunch or just a chilly afternoon and you need a snack while you binge your spooky show, this cinnamon sugar cream cheese makes for the perfect cream cheese board to serve up with warm bagels, homemade crostini, or apple and pear slices. Get the full recipe here!
