Hiccups. We all have them from time to time. And much like mosquito bites, some of us suffer from them more than others. If you get the hiccups often, you know how much of a challenge it can be to get rid of them. But fear not—there are several tricks you can try! The classic method involves holding your breath for a few seconds, allowing the diaphragm to relax.
Alternatively, sipping on a glass of cold water or swallowing a teaspoon of sugar might do the trick by stimulating the vagus nerve. Some folks swear by breathing into a paper bag to increase carbon dioxide levels, which can help regulate the hiccup reflex. We once read – on a different Reddit thread – that thinking of a white horse when you have the hiccups helps you get rid of them. Hey, if it works, it works!
