#28: Behind Locked Doors
Using a credit card to open a locked door might seem like something straight out of a movie, but it can be surprisingly effective, given the right circumstances. This technique typically works with spring-latch locks commonly found on interior doors. By sliding the edge of a flexible credit card between the door and the door frame and then angling it downwards to reach the latch, you can apply gentle pressure to push the latch back and release the door.
The card acts as a shim, essentially tricking the latch into disengaging. However, it’s important to note that this method doesn’t work on deadbolt locks or more secure doors, and attempting to use it on someone else’s property without permission is illegal (and we’re in no way encouraging it!). It’s always better to contact a professional locksmith for assistance in case of emergencies or accidental lockouts.
