Hey Bestie, Let’s Get Organized

February 26, 2022 by Dave Brooks

Okay, real talk, decluttering can be super overwhelming, but if you’re like us, you may be looking around your home right now, thinking something’s gotta give. And there are a ton of benefits to decluttering your home! So let’s not waste a single second more, and talk decluttering tips and the importance of decluttering.

Why Declutter?

Cleaning and organizing can reduce anxiety. If you’ve been feeling a little extra anxious in the comfort of your own home, cleaning and organizing your space may be just what you need to do to relax.

Decluttering can give you a big self-esteem boost. If your home feels out of control, everything feels kinda out of control, organizing can restore a sense of pride.

Believe it or not, decluttering can be super relaxing. When you’re decluttering and organizing, your mind can just kind of shut off, so if you’ve been focusing on work or school a lot lately, decluttering can take your mind off of things.

Lower risk of allergies. A lot of clutter can create a lot of dust, mold, and mildew, all of which can trigger any allergies you may have, but clean your space and those allergens are done-zo.

Okay, we could go on and on, but we need to get to the tips!

Hit Those Flat Surfaces First, and Keep Them Clean

Clear off all of your flat surfaces, then only keep what you need on them, all the rest can go in some type of basket, tote, donation pile, or trash.

Utilize the Storage Space You Do Have

Some of us don’t have very much storage space which can make decluttering seem impossible, but what you can do if you don’t have a lot of storage space is utilize the space you do have. Hanging shelves in your closets, getting totes that sit comfortably under your bed, or even purchasing a few decorative baskets can buy you a ton of extra storage space.

Take it One Room at a Time

You don’t have to totally organize your entire life in one day, you can take it one room at a time and still make a ton of progress.

Look For Things to Digitize

If you have a ton of notes sitting around, maybe addresses or phone numbers of friends and family, even photos, start digitizing all of these things to save you some precious space.

Nightly Cleanups

Once your space is how you like it, keep it this way by taking a few minutes each and every night to tidy your home up, this is a sure-fire way to keep clutter at bay.
