Today we’re talking about things you should, without a doubt, be shopping your local thrift stores for. Before we get started, just a quick reminder that thrfiting is not only a super fun treasure hunt, but it’s really great for the planet, so don’t be shy, even if you aren’t an avid thrifter (yet) it’s never too late to join the party and just do a sweet of a local thrift store. We promise, there is something for everybody. Let’s get started!
Mom Jeans
Okay, not just mom jeans, really any kind of denim; but if you’re on team: mom jeans, thrift store racks are FULL of these trendy trousers. The best part is that jeans are typically just a few bucks at a thrift store, not only that, but you’ll be snagging ORIGINAL mom jeans and not imposters.
Oversized Sweaters
Whether you love the look of an oversized button-down cardigan, a bold printed Grandpa sweater, or a more cottage-core floral sweater situation, thrift stores are pretty much guaranteed to have what you’re looking for. And if you’re new here, do not, we repeat: DO NOT sleep on the men’s section if you’re looking for the comfiest pre-loved sweaters.

All Things Vintage
Thrift stores are the best place to snag vintage clothing, accessories, and so much more. You can typically snag pieces at significantly lower prices than Etsy or eBay, and you don’t have to mess with shipping. Another bonus to buying vintage at a thrift shop? You can see all the imperfections before you purchase, and you’ll know whether or not it’s worth the time and effort.
Furniture/Project Pieces
You can’t expect to find perfect furniture pieces at a thrift store, in fact, you can guarantee there will be some dents and dings, but if you’re the kind of person that looks at beat-up furniture and sees potential, then thrift store furniture is for you. Not only will you run into unique pieces, but thrift stores are fully aware these pieces are being donated for a reason, which means prices are going to be low, low, low.
Funky Dishes
If you love eating off of interesting plates, have a collection of weird coffee mugs, or find yourself literally drooling over Tupperware and Pyrex, then look no further for your next piece than a local thrift store. Sometimes you can get really lucky and snag a whole set or collection, other times it’s up to you and your creativity to put together a cool, mismatched set or collection.

Holiday Decor
Most of us enjoy going all out when it comes to holiday decor, but let’s face it, that can get expensive fast. Hit up the thrift store before you drop big bucks and snag holiday decor on the cheap. Plus, thrifting holiday decor means you’re getting unique pieces and not the same stuff everybody else is getting.
Fun Coats
To some, a coat is a coat, but we like to be stylishly warm and the best way to achieve this look is by snagging an accent coat in a bold print or loud color via the thrift store.
Sewing Machines and Notions
You can almost always find a sewing machine at a thrift store, sure it may be a little dated, but it will work! Pro tip: never pay and/or leave without testing it first! And while you’re there, check out the sewing notions. Not only will you probably snag some unique ones, but they’ll also be way cheap so you can stock up!
