We’re suckers for easy crafts that look super hard. (It’s kind of a bragging rights, thing.) And to say we’re obsessed with what seemingly simple concrete projects can add to a room or garden is an understatement. So ditch the notion of paying more money than necessary for these pieces and get ready to get your hands a little dirty.
First things first, let’s talk about what materials you need before you start on your projects:
- Disposable mixing bowls: the kind from Dollar Tree are perfect, so don’t feel like you need to spend much money at all.
- Durable nitrile gloves: Mixing cement with your hands is a-okay, you just have to make sure you have gloves on.
- Plastic drop cloth
- Plastic cups
- Plastic bags
- Safety glasses
- Safety mask (rated for silica dust)
- Cement All, Rapid Set: You can choose from any number of concrete mixes, this is just a super simple, basic option.
(Basically) Hand Formed Concrete Vases
It doesn’t get any easier than turning cool glass vases and/or bottles into even cooler concrete bottles. Seriously, all you need to do is hit up your favorite local thrift store, antique shop, or recycling center for some unique glass bottles, vases, jars, or whatever you prefer. From here, all you have to do is mix your concrete and cover your bottles. Get the full instructions here!
Candles with Concrete Bases
Don’t get us wrong, we love solid cement decor, but mixing and matching elements? Sign us up. These are also customizable when it comes to the shade of concrete and the color of the candle, so no two have to be alike. Get the full instructions here!
Mini Concrete Planters
These little planters are made with, wait for it, balloons. You’ll simply take a balloon and sculpt around it with your concrete. This tutorial also teaches you how to add a little pigmentation so that your planters pop against whatever plants you choose to put in them. (And fake plants are totally acceptable!) Concrete Ring Cone
There is nothing sweeter than a gift you made with your own two hands and these ring cones are not only simple to make, but they look way cool and they’re useful. If you aren’t married to the color or look of plain concrete, these can easily be painted on or even drawn on to give your cone a little something extra. Get the full instructions here!
