#27: Gimme Shelter
As parents, we want to shelter our kids from the harsh realities of the world. It’s only natural to want to see them thrive and succeed. But sometimes, being overprotective can backfire and result in kids being unprepared for the big bad world. There’s a fine balance between being a refuge for kids and letting them learn harsh life lessons.
While it’s tempting to shelter kids from any and all problems, they have to learn certain things first-hand. Letting go and allowing them to deal with hard social situations, tough classes, and other day-to-day struggles will let them develop the coping skills they need to thrive as adults. It’s not fun, but neither is sheltering your kids from the “real world.” That will only lead to a rude awakening for them!
