Suppose you love chocolate and creating a themed charcuterie board for just about anything and everything. In that case, you will absolutely want to make a hot chocolate charcuterie board for friends and family this year. Whether it’s a family get-together or a party, if it’s winter, then you need hot chocolate to ensure everyone stays warm and cozy, which means you can make this kind of board through the New Year and the rest of the winter months. When we have a piping hot mug of hot chocolate we like to go all out with the toppings and add-ins and that is exactly what this board encourages your guests to do.
When it comes to gathering supplies for your board, this is entirely up to you, but here is a list of ideas to get you going:
- Hot chocolate mix (any and all flavors!)
- Large marshmallows
- Mini marshmallows
- Chocolate chips
- Whipped cream
- Chocolate kisses
- Chocolate covered pretzels
- Cinnamon sticks
- Chocolate-covered espresso beans
- Shortbread cookies
- Caramels
- Peppermint bark
- Graham crackers
- Sprinkles
- Pirouette wafers
- Hot cocoa bombs (store-bought or home-made)
- French cookies
- Gingerbread cookies
Now it’s time to make your board! There really is no magic formula to this one, you can put things in small bowls to add some dimension to your board then start laying the rest of the ingredients around the bowl.
What we love most about a hot chocolate board is that it’s super versatile. You can add glitter sprinkles (and booze) to make a boozy New Year’s hot chocolate charcuterie board, then when Valentine’s Day comes around cue all the pink candies and marshmallows.

Feeling bougie? Here’s a recipe to make your very own hot chocolate from Smart Schoolhouse.
Ingredients:
- 5 cups of whole milk
- At least 12 oz of sweetened condensed milk (I use a full 14 oz can)
- 1 cup of semi-sweet chocolate chips
- At least 1 Tsp of vanilla extract (I use 1 Tbs)
- Can of whipped cream (optional)
- Ground Cinnamon (optional)
Materials:
- Medium-large pot
- Whisk
- Mixing bowl
- Spoon
- Ladle
Instructions:
- Pour milk into pot over low heat
- keep it on low heat the entire time to prevent burning
- Add the sweetened condensed milk, chocolate chips, and vanilla extract to the milk
- Stir regularly for at least 30 minutes to ensure the chocolate and milk don’t burn to the bottom of the pot
- Once hot, squirt ordinary whipped cream into a mixing bowl and stir it with a spoon
- This removes the extra bubbles making it smooth
- Ladle the thick and creamy hot chocolate into a mug
- Spoon the smooth whipped cream on top (optional)
- Sprinkle a line of ground cinnamon across the mug (optional)
