It’s only logical that there be different ages at which we’re ready for different things, responsible for different things, and liable for different things. The distinction between these ages is something we should be taught from high school so we’re best prepared to make the journey into independence and adulthood.

It’s actually pretty cool that the law adds a little bit of extra protection on top of the age of consent. It’s basically like saying to teenagers, “Hey, you’re old enough to start governing your own experiences but not old enough for other members of society to treat you however they like.” Three cheers for the law!
