#16: Speaking from Experience
As a lifelong Floridian, this person unfortunately has quite a lot of experience with hurricanes, and he’s joined the thread to share some of his wisdom. Hurricanes bring strong winds and heavy rain, which can cause trees, branches, and debris to fall, often bringing down power lines with them. These downed power lines can be extremely dangerous, as they may still carry live electrical currents.
Approaching or attempting to touch them can result in electrocution, severe injury, or even fatalities. That’s why it’s imperative to maintain a safe distance from any downed power lines. Always assume that they are energized and report them to local authorities or the utility company. Additionally, avoid standing water near downed power lines, as it could be electrically charged.
