A What Allergy?
If you heard someone say that they were allergic to water, you might not believe them. It’s essential for life, so how can a human be allergic to it? Well, it’s entirely possible. Aquagenic urticaria is the rare condition of being allergic to water. People with the condition break out in hives when their skin comes in contact with water, regardless of temperature.
Someone on the Ask Reddit thread shared that they have aquagenic urticaria, which is wild because this condition affects only about one in 230 million people. People with this condition can still drink water. Water only causes an allergic reaction when it comes in contact with the skin. Interestingly, there are some people who are only allergic to saltwater, not freshwater.
