#5: Distract Your Body
As this person suggests, we can play tricks on our bodies and mind. For example, if you get hurt and pinch yourself somewhere to focus on that new sensation, your brain is essentially engaged in a form of sensory redirection. This diversion of attention can lead your body to perceive the pinched area as more painful, which in turn downplays the pain from the original injury.

It’s a clever way to mitigate the discomfort and lessen the duration of the pain, as your brain becomes momentarily occupied with the new sensation. Of course, we can’t say that this trick works for more severe injuries. But when it’s something relatively mild, like a stubbed toe or a paper cut, it’s definitely worth a try!
