#2: What’s Your Strong Nostril?
Did you know that we only breathe through one nostril at a time? This is a fascinating aspect of our respiratory system that many people might not be aware of. This alternating pattern is known as the nasal cycle, where one nostril is more dominant in terms of airflow while the other has reduced airflow. The dominance typically switches every hour or so.
This natural nasal cycle plays a crucial role in maintaining healthy nasal function by helping to regulate the temperature and humidity of the air we breathe. It also ensures that each nostril gets a break from the constant airflow. This subtle and often unnoticed aspect of our physiology goes to show how much there is yet to learn about the human body.
